This is a photo of one of our great great grandfathers (our paternal grandfather's maternal grandfather - if you can work that one out!) called Giovanni Battista (John Baptist) Borg.He was born in Malta in 1849, had three children and was a
wine merchant. He lived in Vittoriosa (Birgu) - the oldest fo the so-called 'Three Cities' .
Thomas is amused to know that
he is partly
descended from a Borg, since he is a fan of
Star
Trek, within which feature 'Borg's of a slightly different kind.

The great grandfather from whom we derive our surname is Guze (Joseph) Agius.He was born in Vittoriosa (Birgu),
Malta in 1882, had six
children who
survived into adulthood, and four grandchildren.
During the Second World War he was not a combatant, but for
his efforts
he received a number of awards. His medals are shown in the image
alongside.
